Little Salmon Advocates with Buster the Sockeye Salmon

A picture can speak a thousand words.  Through photos we can celebrate wild salmon and steelhead and all that they represent to the Nation: healthy lands, rivers, and oceans, strong wildlife populations, recreational and commercial fishing heritage, vibrant communities, jobs and nourishing food.

In addition to submitting your “official comments” in a written format on the draft Federal Salmon Plan for the Snake and Columbia Rivers, the Save Our Wild Salmon Coalition is also encouraging supporters of protecting and restoring endangered salmon and steelhead to submit comments with digital photographs.

In addition to the Federal Agencies, we will be sure to deliver the compiled photos to members of Congress, media, and the Bush Administration. Finally, we will be using all the photos in a photo-mosaic project – using all the faces of people in support of salmon and steelhead recovery to create a larger image.

Submitting your written comments for the record is an important way to demonstrate your support for protecting wild salmon and steelhead from extinction. By presenting the faces of grassroots supporters, friends and families to elected officials, photos can show the real concern we all share about the fate of wild Pacific salmon – a national treasure and a renewable natural resource that is vital part of communities across the western United States.

Suggestions for Creating and Submitting Your Photos:

1. Include one or more people in each photo.
2. Feel free to submit multiple photos of different people – take and submit photos of family and friends.
3. If possible, save the photo in the 100K to 500K range. We will post the photos online, and include them with official written comments delivered to Members of Congress, the Presidential candidates, Media, and the Federal Agencies. (note: by submitting photos, you are agreeing to these uses.)
4. Be sure to include pro-salmon messages in support of lower Snake River dam removal. Download some signs HERE or make your own!
5.  Be creative, have fun, recruit your friends and family to get involved.
